Do you remember the Walkman?

This, my friends, is a walkman. In my opinion, one of the best pieces of technologies of its time, born from the idea of making listening to music a portable and personal experience. Using music stored on cassette tapes, it was a big step forward in music technology.

I've been a music lover all my life, and one of the best things that happened to me was when I could finally easily take around my music. Sure, now we have iPods and all sorts of Mp3 players, but before all that there were Walkmans. The idea of popping in a cassette tape into a tiny player and being able to bring it around with me anywhere was like a dream come true. I actually still have a small collection of cassette tapes tucked away in a small drawer.

I can still remember clearly those mornings when I'd wake up and have to go through all those tapes just to choose what music I'd be listening to for the rest of the day. Unlike now where Mp3 players have large amounts of space to store all types of music, back then you could only conveniently take around 2-3 different cassette tapes; either that or go through the trouble of making a personal mix-tape with all your favorite songs. (Another thing that people hardly ever do anymore)

Simply put it, the Walkman was where portable music started. The "great great grandfather" of all Mp3 players that exist today.
